Reviews start with light spoilers for those of you who may just want to know if the books are any good before reading and then we head to the spoiler floor, where we give a blow-by-blow breakdown for any of you cheeky chappies, who want to sound like you’ve read the book but just don’t have time to read it or those of you that did read it and thought what the f@#k! Either way be warned, every episode will contain spoilers and language that some listens may find offensive thus the explicit rating, so consider yourself warned! EP 59 Review 12 Ghosts Podcast
Tuesday Dec 12, 2023
Tuesday Dec 12, 2023
This episode we are talking about the fabulous podcast 12 Ghosts starring the amazing Malcolm McDowell.
As if that wasn’t enough, we are fortunate enough to be joined by the extremely talented Tab from podcasts Test Pattern and Stiletto Banshees, as well as the lovely Tiff, also from Stiletto Banshees.
As usual we digress, bouncing around into random unrelated topics but, credit where credit is due, Tab and Tiff manage to keep track and match the chaos!

EP 56 REVIEW The Return by Rachel Harrison
Tuesday Nov 14, 2023
Tuesday Nov 14, 2023
It’s a book review this episode. Annette and Chell review The Return by Rachel Harrison. Is this a debut novel with a kick or a meek flick? Listen as The Crones decide if this is a sinner or winner…….
Synopsis:
Julie is missing, and no one believes she will ever return-except Elise. Elise knows Julie better than anyone. She feels it in her bones that her best friend is out there and that one-day Julie will come back.
She's right. Two years to the day that Julie went missing, she reappears with no memory of where she's been or what happened to her.
Along with Molly and Mae, their two close friends from college, the women decide to reunite at a remote inn. But the second Elise sees Julie, she knows something is wrong-she's emaciated, with sallow skin and odd appetites. And as the weekend unfurls, it becomes impossible to deny that the Julie who vanished two years ago is not the same Julie who came back. But then who-or what-is she?
An eerie storm of a debut that fuses thriller and horror into a brilliant depiction of women's friendships - the rivalries, jealousies, anxieties and love.

Ep 55 RAMBLE Halloween Reads
Tuesday Oct 31, 2023
Tuesday Oct 31, 2023
The spooky season is upon us, Annette and Chell talk about what they like to read and listen to this time of year and what they would like to read over the coming weeks.
Some of Annettes favourites are old school 90s classics 13 Tales of Horror a point horror anthology, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz and a super hard recommendation for The September House by Carissa Orlando which sounds spooky as F@~k. In her to be read pile is Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror curated by Jordan Peele (director of Get Out) and All Hallows by Christopher Golden full of 1980s nostalgia Stranger Thing’s vibes.
Chell is totally unprepared but inspired by Annettes lists recommends a NIGHTLIGHT an ‘award winning horror fiction podcast featuring creepy tales written by Black authors from all over the world’ (https://nightlightpod.com/), her to be read pile includes The Case Against Saten by Ray Russell, written 10 years before the exorcist and rumoured to have inspired it. Currently reading Fearsome Fairies: Haunting Tales of the Fae (British Library Hardback Classics) which as a beautiful hard cover and reads a little extract from Bats in the Library by Brian Lies.

Ep 54 REVIEW Baba Lanka by Sarah England (aka S.E. England)
Monday Oct 16, 2023
Monday Oct 16, 2023
The Crones review Baba Lanka Pure Occult Horror by S.E. England (aka Sarah England).
Annette finally gets a satisfying revenge scene and Chell develops a new author fixation! Come join us as we work though this British horror…
Baba Lanka synopsis:
1970, and Baba Lenka begins in an icy Bavarian village with a highly unorthodox funeral. The deceased is Baba Lenka, great-grandmother to Eva Hart. But a terrible thing happens at the funeral, and from that moment on everything changes for seven year old Eva. The family fly back to Yorkshire but it seems the cold Alpine winds have followed them home...and the ghost of Baba Lenka has followed Eva. This is a story of demonic sorcery and occult practices during the World Wars, the horrors of which are drip-fed into young Eva's mind to devastating effect. Once again, this is absolutely not for the faint of heart
